December's Book and Project

Meeting: December 4, 2012 at 7 pm

What Child Is This?: A Christmas Story

For December's book club we will be reading What Child Is This? by Caroline B. Cooney.

It is a story about Christmas and foster children. If you are a mother you will cry. Just a warning.

For the project we will be putting together stockings for the Kid's Kottage. The Kid's Kottage is a temporary home for children until they can be placed in a foster home. It is supposed to be temporary, but because of the lack of foster homes some kids can be in there for quite a while. We need to make about 75 stockings and probably a few extra just in case.

I will provide the stockings (thank you Oriental Trading). I'm relying on all of you to bring the goodies to fill them with.

Here are some ideas

Candy (obviously)
Oranges
Toiletry items (combs, toothbrushes, etc)
Small trinkets or toys (Again, Oriental Trading is a great place to look for these sorts of things on the cheap. Place your order now.)
nail polish, lip gloss, chap stick
Small stuffed toys
hats or mittens
gifts cards
Anything else you can think of.

Now 75 is a lot of stockings, so don't try something super expensive or even feel like you have to bring 75 of something.  Here is the break down of kids by age.
Under 2 - 3
ages 2-5  -  12
ages 5-12  -  32
ages 12 and up  -  24

Perhaps just choose an age group and bring something for that. We will put the stockings together at the meeting.  If you decide what you want to bring either call or message me or leave a comment on this blog.

For those of you who wish to participate but don't live in the Reno area, you can either come up with your own service project or send your donations our way.

I'm so excited for this. It is going to be great!  Get the word out!
